What is Mundane Astrology

Branch of astrology that deals with world’s events and universal trends rather than the individual is termed as Mundane Astrology. Mundane Astrology is the application of the knowledge of astrology to understand the world affairs and world events. It is named after the Roman word ‘Mundus’, meaning “The World”. Mundane astrology is believed to be the most ancient branch of astrology in the history of the world. It is branch of judicial astrology. Many modern and ancient mundane astrologers believe that correlations exist between geological phenomena (such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunami, mud flow etc.) and astronomical phenomena (the movement of celestial bodies in relation to the Earth). In the Middle Ages it was more commonly known as the study of Revolutions which implies the study of the revolutions of the planets in their apparent orbits around the Earth.

In ancient era Mundane Astrology was used to solve two most significant purposes – one was to understand and explain histories, such as the rise and fall of empires or religions. While the other was to predict the future. Some philosophers believed that the world could be saved from disaster with the help of this study since the future troubles are possible to predict and subsequently can be avoided.
In modern world this branch of astrology is practiced to predict about stock and share market strategies, important events related to countries such as war, earthquakes, political events, election, about the fall or rise of particular government, astro – meteorology, financial positions, house & construction related matters (Vaastu Shaastra), animals, portents & omens etc.

Although it was originally developed in ancient Babylon there have been three subsequent major periods of developments. In 120 AD the Greek astrologer Claudius Ptolemy set down the fundamentals of mundane astrology in his famous treatise on astrology, the Tetrabiblos. In the ninth and tenth centuries, the astrologers of the Islamic world added many more techniques while the twentieth century saw a major proliferation of techniques mainly based on the use of planetary cycles.
