The day and night praise Lord Shiva and was an ardent devotee from whim he learned the methods of warfare and other skills. Although Parshuram was the son of a Brahmin, he axed the skills of warfare and had an inordinate love for weapons and has kshatriya traits in him. He is also called as ‘Brahma-Kshatriya’ i.e. the one who possesses both the qualities of Brahmins and kshatriya.

Jamadagni was very fond of cow and he had a divine cow called as Kamadhenu. Kamadhenu is called as the wish-fulfilling cow. The king Kartavirya wanted this cow for himself and he took it by force. Parshuram was highly angered by this and he killed the king using his axe. Sage jamadagni got furious and it was not auspicious for a Brahmin to kill a warrior, so he ordered Parshuram to go on a pilgrimage to wash away his sins. When he returned back he found that Kartavirya’s sons had killed his father, by seeing this Parshuram got furious and he killed all the warrior clan belonging to the king.

significance of the Story
Jamadagni is the burning fire of Sadhana and it has been described in the mythology when the spiritual fire becomes strong, then it gives rise to spiritual ecstasy ( Parhuram ). Parshuram ( Spiritual ecstasy ) only rises when the arrogance has been killed and purified and here we have read that the king Kritaviraya, represents the arrogance born out of the brave deeds. When such ecstasy increases, it kills and purifies the temptations that arise due to Maya ( Parshuram mother ). Also, the birth of such ecstasy kills and purifies all the Kshatriya qualities in one like revenge, anger, selfishness etc.
