Tulsi Vivah 2025: Rituals, Astrological Significance & Spiritual Benefits

Tulsi Vivah is a special Hindu festival celebrated in the Kartik month, marking the auspicious wedding of the sacred Tulsi plant and Lord Vishnu (in Shaligram form). This sacred event, lauded in Vedic astrology, promises wealth, happiness, and the removal of negative energies from your home and life.

Mr. Prashant Kapoor, an expert and the world’s first medical astrologer, talks about the benefits of Tulsi Vivah in your home and your life.

What is Tulsi Vivah?

Tulsi Vivah usually marks the ceremonial marriage of the Tulsi plant, which is often regarded as a form of Goddess Lakshmi to Lord Vishnu, usually represented in the form of a Shaligram stone or sometimes as Lord Krishna.  This festival is primarily celebrated on the Dwadashi (12th day) of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) in the Hindu month of Kartik, typically falling between October and November.

This ceremony is considered similar to performing kanyadaan (giving away a daughter in marriage), bringing benefits to people who do this puja, especially for families without daughters.

Tulsi Vivah Muhurat

This year, in 2025, Tulsi Vivah is supposed to happen on 2nd November 2025. The muhurat time for the same is 7:31 am on November 2nd to 5:07 am on November 3rd.

However, for more accuracy, kindly refer to the panchang or local temples for the exact muhurat time for your own region.

Tulsi Vivah Puja Rituals

Mr. Prashant Kapoor suggests the following rituals to be performed for Tulsi Vivah:

  • Clean the home and the place where you wish to perform the puja.
  • The devotee should bathe and wear clean, traditional attire.
  • Fast (vrat) is observed until rituals begin (can be light, satvik food).
  • Place the Tulsi plant on a decorated platform, adorned with rangoli and surrounded by sugarcane or banana stalks.
  • Lord Vishnu/Shaligram idol or photo is placed opposite the Tulsi plant, dressed as a groom.
  • Decorate both bride (Tulsi) and groom (Vishnu) with traditional attire, ie, Tulsi Mata with sari, jewelry, bindi, kumkum, turmeric, and Lord Vishnu with dhoti.
  • Light a diya and incense sticks.
  • Offer flowers, fruits, and perfumes to both idols.
  • Sprinkle holy water, chant mantras, and begin the ceremony.
  • Tie a sacred yellow/ red thread between the Tulsi plant and Lord Vishnu’s idol, symbolizing the marital bond.
  • Perform the phera ceremony with the Tulsi plant and Lord Vishnu’s idol.
  • Perform aarti, and offer sweets as bhog.
