Azoospermia is a condition in which there is no sperm or nil sperm count in the ejaculation of male semen. It is a condition with a sperm count equal to or less than 15million/ml in the semen.

Azoospermia is associated with the low fertility level and if not treated properly can completely make a man impotent.

“Azoospermia is the complete lack of sperm in the ejaculate”. It is seen in 5% of infertile men. It can be caused due to two conditions and these conditions have to be studied in detail.

Genetic cause

Pre-testicular Azoospermia is caused by the congenital hypo pituitary conditions, Kallmann syndrome and Prader-will syndrome. In this, the frequency of chromosomal abnormalities is inversely proportional to the semen count.
Post-testicular Azoospermia is caused by the mutation in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator.

Azoospermia Evaluation
Initially, a complete review of the medical history of the patient is necessary. The family history is also important to know the reason behind the Azoospermia if all medical condition is sound. If in a family there is past history, then it is most likely that a person will suffer from it. Second, the complete physical examination is done for the reason of the cause. Another diagnosis is the blood test in which the Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and testosterone are examined properly. Fourth, two semen of the same person is needed. In both the semen, standard semen analysis is done and if no sperm is found in the semen, further additional evaluation technique in which samples are spun in a centrifuge to concentrate a small number of sperms at the bottom of the tube. Then the final conclusion is and a report is analyzed for the treatment of nil sperm count.
