Cataract is a severe eye disease in which there is a cloudy area in the lens or the lens capsule. Cataract is the most common form of vision loss in the old age and it can make one completely disable for regular work. Cataract occurs in people over 40 years of age. It is essential to have a regular check up with an eye surgeon to prevent the onset of this eye disease. A cataract can be differentiated into three types: a) Sub capsular cataract- This form of cataract occurs at the back of the lenses. People who suffer from diabetes or taking high doses of steroids suffer from this type of cataract. b) Nuclear cataract – This cataract forms in the deep zone of the lens. This form of cataract is associated with aging. c) Cortical cataract – This is characterized by white, wedge like opacities that starts in the periphery of the lens. This occurs in the cortex of the lens.
