Black star diopside is also known as star of India. Diopside is a form of calcium magnesium silicate. It is the most common form of the pyroxene group. It is a very recent variety of cabochon found recently. This is generally a blackish or blackish green in color. It is rarely green in color. Black star diposide is round or oval in shape, with an unpolished base. It has four rays, two of which are straight, while the other two are not at right angles to the first pair. Black star diposide is measured in several tens of carats. They are commonly cut large in shape.

Origin: Black Star Diopside is most commonly found in India. It is found in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. It is also found in some areas of Burma.
