Lord Ganesha is one of the most revered and loved Hindu Gods. He is also considered as one of the most commonly associated symbols of Hinduism. He is the son of Lord Shiva. Legends describe that Lord Ganesha is the son of Lord Shiva, the destroyer in the Holy Trinity and Goddess Parvati.

Lord Ganesha’s symbolic figurine has an elephant’s head and curved trunk and big ears on a big human body. He love laddus and mouse is his chosen vehicle. Lord Ganesha is also called as Vighanharta as he is the destroyer of evils and obstacles. He is also worshipped as the God of education, wisdom, and knowledge. He is one of the five major Hindu deities (The Holy Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and Chief Goddess – Durga )

Various Names of Lord Ganesha

Lord Ganesha  is known to solve all kind of troubles and touch all aspects of the human life with his holy presence. Lord Ganesha is called by various names and some of the major names are Vighanharta, Sumukha, Bhalchandra, Vinayaka and Lambodara. He is worshipped and adored in all forms. He is also considered as one of the cutest forms of Lord.

  • Ganpati – The Lord of all Lords
  • Sumukha – The Lord with a beautiful face
  • Vinayaka – The prominent Lord of all
  • Gajanana – The Elephant headed God
  • Ek Danta – The Lord with one tusk
  • Lambkarna – Long Eared God

How you should worship Lord Ganesha

For each deity we should follow certain norms and it is not so that rituals that we follow for one God is same for the other. Each new activity or pooja is started by worshipping and offering to the holy God Lord Ganesha. Each new work is initiated by offering to Lord Ganesha. Blessings of Lord Ganesha are said to be the most powerful and the devotion of this marvelous deity does not stay within Hindu boundaries, but also extends to other religions like Jainism and Buddhism.

There are many mantras, and stotras specifically written in the Vedas and Puranas to please and worship the great Lord. The most important of them all is-

“Vakratunda Mahaakaaya Suryakotee Sama Prabha

Nirvighnam kuru mey Deva Sarva kaaryeshu Sarvadaa”
