Chaitra Navratri is an ode to Goddess Durga. All the 9 forms of Durga, also called NavDurga is celebrated during this time. It also allows us to make a marked transformation in our lives.
Akanksha Srivastava, the CEO of AstroKapoor, and a celebrated astrologer and astro-numerologist, guides us with the importance of Navratri, remedies to be done, and why these 9 days can form a strong root for a successful future.
Chaitra Navratri falls in the Shukla Paksha. It is usually known as the waxing phase of the moon. This phase is the moon of growth, manifestation, and increasing vitality. Also, since it is considered to be the New Year as per Vedic traditions, the solar energy is the most direct and unfiltered during this time. So, when the energies of the Sun are exalted and get combined with the rising Shakti of Navratri, the spiritual atmosphere is most charged.
Mrs. Akanksha Srivastava talks about how the decisions made during Chaitra Navratri tend to carry unusual staying power. The planetary energies support new intentions. Initiating spiritual practices, beginning important ventures, or undertaking healing rituals during these nine days is recommended by our ancient scriptures for very good reasons.
The 9 manifestations of Durga are known as Navdurga. Each form is worshipped on a specific day, and each carries its own divine energy, symbolism, and sphere of influence. The 9 forms of Durga are mapped to the 9 planets of Vedic Astrology. It creates a profound correspondence between the divine feminine and the celestial bodies that govern our lives. The details are as follows:
- Day 1: Maa Shaiputri: The daughter of the mountains, associated with the Moon. Worshipping her brings emotional stability, mental clarity, and inner peace.
- Day 2: Brahmacharini: Associated with Mars, she represents willpower and courage.
- Day 3: Chandraghanta: She is associated with Venus, and she is the one who attracts prosperity and removes obstacles in relationships.
- Day 4: Kushmanda: Associated with the Sun, worshipping her brings vitality, intelligence, and creative power.
- Day 5: Skandmata: Associated with Mercury, she governs communication and intellect.
- Day 6: Katyayani: Fierce Goddess, who is associated with Jupiter, worshipping her leads to a successful marriage.
- Day 7: Kalaratri: Associated with Saturn, she is the destroyer of darkness and ignorance.
- Day 8: Mahagauri: Associated with Rahu, she removes past karmas.
- Day 9: Siddhidatri: Associated with Ketu, she bestows spiritual accomplishments.
Rituals to amplify the energies of Navratri
As per Mrs. Srivastava, observing certain rituals during the 9 days of Navratri makes a profound difference to the spiritual and practical outcomes. Navratri demands active participation, through fasting, mantras, and conscious living. The things to be done are:
- Fasting : Fasting is one of the key rituals to be performed in Navratri. It is a form of tapasya that builds spiritual heat in the body and mind. This heat, when channelled perfectly, moves towards the path of transformation. Fasting purifies the body and prepares it to receive higher frequencies from the divine energy.
- Durga Saptashati Recitation : The 700 verses recited to praise Goddess Durga is the most powerful spiritual practice of Navratri. Devotees do it individually or can also take the guidance of a priest. If a complete reading is not possible, even the daily recitation of the Devi Kavacham, the Argala Stotram, and the Keelakam carries immense protective and purifying power.
- Mantra chanting : The Navarna Mantra, ‘Om Aim Hreem Kleem Chamundaye Viche’ is the seed mantra of the Goddess Durga that encompasses all her nine forms. Chant this mantra 108 times daily during the 9 days. It creates a powerful cosmic frequency of Shakti.
- Kanya Puja : Worship of 9 young girls on the 8th or 9th day of Navratri is a beautiful ritual of Navratri. It reinforces the concept that the Divine Feminine is not merely an abstract theological concept, but a living, breathing presence that dwells within every woman and girl.
Navratri and Ayurveda
Chaitra marks the beginning of the Vasant Ritu, the spring season. As per Ayurveda, the accumulated Kapha Dosha from winter begins to liquify and circulates throughout the body. Without proper management, this Kapha accumulation leads to sluggishness, respiratory ailments, digestive issues, and mental heaviness.
That is why, it is recommended to keep a fast during the 9 days of Navratri. The foods consumed during Navratri: fresh fruits, rock salt, sendha namak, water chestnuts, sago (sabudana), and light dairy are all easy to digest and Kapha-reducing. Abstinence gives the body rest after the heavy winter diet. Along with the diet, spiritual practices like waking up early, mantra recitation, and temple visits increases the Agni. It is the metabolic and digestive fire that Kapha tends to suppress.
Body, mind, and soul are inseparable, and these spiritual practices during festivals is just another way to balance the 3.
Ram Navami
The final day of Chaitra Navratri is Ram Navami. It is the birth date of Lord Ram, the 7th avatar of Lord Vishnu. As per Ramayan, when Lord Ram invoked the grace of Goddess, before his fight with Ravan, he could win against the mighty Rakshas. The culmination of Navratri on Ram Navami signifies that worshipping the Shakti opens a pathway to the realisation of dharma, truth, and righteousness, the core principles of Lord Ram.
Mrs. Srivastava recommends to read SunderKaand on Ram Navami. This particular section of Ramayan deals with the devotion of Lord Hanuman and his faith against all odds.
Also, light a ghee lamp before an image of Lord Ram, at noon. Around this time, Lord Ram was born. Also, chant Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram while offering Tulsi leaves in front of the image. This simple act brings about remarkable shifts in circumstances related to career, legal matters, and family harmony.
Conclusion
This Chaitra Navratri 2026 is happening at a time when the world is at the crossroads of a major change. It becomes imperative to embrace the change with more awareness and higher divine power. The outer world reflects the inner world, and the inner world responds to sincere spiritual effort. These nine nights are a great opportunity to do the inner work that will shape the outer circumstances in the months ahead.
May Maa Durga, in all her nine magnificent forms, bless each of us with the clarity to see the path, the courage to walk it, and the wisdom to know when to act and when to surrender. Jai Mata Di.
