Morganite (Pink Beryl) gemstone, the pink variety of beryl is named after the famous American banker and gem enthusiast John Pierpont Morgan. The color is usually quite a soft pink without any overtones. The pleochroism is not noticeable. Morganite has glassy luster, like other beryl. The stones are usually fairly free of inclusions. Sometimes, however, irregular liquid and gaseous inclusions, of very uneven shape, are just visible. Morganite is not a common gem, but specimens are often medium to large. Morganite was discovered in California in early 1900’s and soon thereafter in Madagascar. It is not easily distinguished from kunzite, pink topaz, and the more attractively colored pink tourmalines, expect, of course by its physical characteristics.
Occurrence- Morganite is mainly found in pegmatite in the United States (California), Brazil, and Madagascar. Richly colored stones of atleast few carats are among the more valuable secondary gems.
