Navratri, a festival that spans nine divine nights, is one of the most revered and celebrated events in the Hindu calendar. This annual festival is a celebration of feminine divinity, a time when devotees honour the Goddess in her various forms and reflect on the spiritual journey within. Day 1: Pratipada (October 3, 2024)

  • Devi Name: Shailaputri
  • Significance: On the first day of Navratri, Goddess Shailaputri is worshipped. She symbolises nature and purity and marks the beginning of the spiritual journey.
  • Colour: Yellow
  • Muhurat: Ghatasthapana Muhurat in the early morning hours (specific times vary).
  • Rituals: Devotees place the Kalash and offer flowers and fruits, seeking the goddess’s blessings for strength and health.

Day 2: Dwitiya (October 4, 2024)

  • Devi Name: Brahmacharini
  • Significance: Goddess Brahmacharini represents penance and austerity. Worshipping her on the second day instils discipline and perseverance.
  • Colour: Green
  • Muhurat: Early morning prayers are ideal for invoking the goddess’s blessings for self-control and wisdom.
  • Rituals: Offer green flowers and fruits, meditate, and observe fasting for spiritual focus.

Day 3: Tritiya (October 5, 2024)

  • Devi Name: Chandraghanta
  • Significance: Goddess Chandraghanta, the symbol of peace and courage, is worshipped on this day. She represents strength and grace.
  • Colour: Grey
  • Muhurat: Perform morning prayers to invoke the goddess’s protection and inner strength.
  • Rituals: Offer sweets and grey flowers, and ring bells during prayers to ward off negativity.

Day 4: Chaturthi (October 6, 2024)

  • Devi Name: Kushmanda
  • Significance: Goddess Kushmanda, known as the creator of the universe, is worshipped. She brings energy, health, and prosperity.
  • Colour: Orange
  • Muhurat: Morning prayers and offerings should be performed to attract positivity and growth.
  • Rituals: Offer coconuts, orange flowers, and sweets to the goddess for blessings of abundance and energy.

Day 5: Panchami (October 7, 2024)

  • Devi Name: Skandamata
  • Significance: Goddess Skandamata is worshipped for her compassion and maternal energy. She blesses her devotees with wisdom and salvation.
  • Colour: White
  • Muhurat: Perform morning prayers during Brahma Muhurat to seek peace and protection.
  • Rituals: Offer white flowers, bananas, and sweets to seek the blessings of the goddess.

Day 6: Shashti (October 8, 2024)

  • Devi Name: Katyayani
  • Significance: On this day, devotees worship Goddess Katyayani, the warrior goddess who grants courage and strength.
  • Colour: Red
  • Muhurat: Early morning and evening prayers are ideal for invoking the blessings of strength and protection.
  • Rituals: Red flowers and sweets are offered to the goddess. Unmarried women worship the deity to seek blessings for a suitable partner.

Day 7: Saptami (October 9, 2024)

  • Devi Name: Kalaratri
  • Significance: Goddess Kalaratri, the destroyer of darkness and ignorance, is worshipped on this day. She brings fearlessness and wards off negativity.
  • Colour: Royal Blue
  • Muhurat: Morning and evening prayers, especially during Brahma Muhurat, help dispel fear and negative forces.
  • Rituals: Offer black sesame seeds, blue flowers, and sweets, seeking the goddess’s protection from evil.

Day 8: Ashtami (October 10, 2024)

  • Devi Name: Mahagauri
  • Significance: On the eighth day, Goddess Mahagauri, the symbol of purity and tranquility, is worshipped. She blesses devotees with peace, prosperity, and relief from suffering.
  • Colour: Pink
  • Muhurat: The Sandhi Puja, performed between Ashtami and Navami, is particularly significant during this day.
  • Rituals: Devotees offer pink flowers and sweets, asking for the goddess’s blessings to remove past sins and seek inner peace.

Day 9: Navami (October 11, 2024)

  • Devi Name: Siddhidatri
  • Significance: The ninth and final day is dedicated to Goddess Siddhidatri, who bestows success, wisdom, and spiritual fulfilment. She is the divine aspect of perfection, and her blessings lead to the attainment of spiritual powers (siddhis).
  • Colour: Purple
  • Muhurat: Morning prayers during Brahma Muhurat are considered especially auspicious on this day, as it is believed to enhance spiritual enlightenment and fulfilment of desires.
  • Rituals: Offer purple flowers and fruits, praying for wisdom, success, and ultimate liberation. Many observe Kanya Puja on this day, worshipping young girls as embodiments of the goddess.
