Ravana Samhita and Medical Astrology: Ancient Wisdom for Modern Times

The Ravana Samhita is an ancient and revered text in Hindu astrology and palmistry. Named
after the legendary king Ravana from the Indian epic Ramayana, this text is believed to
encapsulate his profound knowledge in these fields. Traditionally considered an expert
astrologer and palmist, Ravana’s contributions through the Ravana Samhita offer deep
insights into human life, character analysis, and predictive techniques based on planetary
positions, palm lines, and other astrological indicators.
Ravana is not only credited with the authorship of the Ravana Samhita but also the Arka
Prakasham, a significant text on medicine and treatment. This ancient work delves into the
preparation of Arka (distillates) through an extensive conversation between Ravana and his
consort, Mandodari. The dialogue sheds light on various medical remedies, highlighting the
intersection between astrology and healthcare in ancient times.

Remedies for Wealth and Fame

The Ravana Samhita also provides unique remedies aimed at boosting wealth and fame,
reflecting the holistic approach of ancient wisdom. Here are three such remedies that
combine spiritual practices with practical applications:

Remedy 1:
For those facing financial losses and low social status, the text advises seeking the
assistance of a learned Brahmin (pandit) and finding an auspicious mahurat (timing) to
perform a special puja. This puja should be conducted near a sacred water source, such as
a river or pond, with a Banyan tree (Vat Vriksha) nearby.

Remedy 2:
After purifying oneself by bathing in holy water or using Gangajal, the individual should
establish a seat under the Banyan tree and chant the mantra:
“ओम ह्रीं श्रींक्लींनम: ध्व: ध्व: स्वाहा” (Om Hreem Shreem Kleem Namah Dhwaha Dhwaha
Swaha)
This mantra should be repeated 1100 times daily for at least 21 consecutive days. If the
continuity is broken for any reason, the remedy must be restarted from the beginning.

Remedy 3:
To transcend worldly illusions, the Ravana Samhita suggests making a paste from Apamarg
seeds and goat’s milk. Applying this paste over the entire body is believed to attract divine
favor and help the practitioner disconnect from the delusional aspects of the material world.
