The term Sharad signifies the Sharad Ritu or autumn season of the year. Sharad Purnima signifies the celebration of the harvest festival and has huge religious significance. It is believed that on this day Maa Lakshmi was born and if devotees stay vigil all night and offer special prayers to Maa Lakshmi, she blesses the person with wealth and prosperity even if there is no Lakshmi yoga in the kundli. Sharad Purnima 2018 what is so special
On the day of sharad purnima, it is believed that moon is in the fullest brilliance of its life cycle. It is also known that it drips Amrit on planet earth on this day, therefore, the moonlight on Sharad Purnima is believed to possess amazing medical and nourishing properties. If we are awake whole night, it is believed that body is rejuvenated by getting the moonlit on this day. People prepare kheer of milk and rice and place it under the open sky throughout the night and consume it in the morning to get the miraculous powers of moonlight for health and happiness.

During this Purnima, solid foods should be avoided. Once the fast is completed, the devotees must break the fast with mixture of cold milk and rice flakes. Cold milk is important for this fasting because in the shard season, days are hot and the nights are cool. So for such a mixed weather there can be problem of acidity and other stomach disporders. Therefore, cold milk mixed with rice flakes is a simple remedy to keep this problem away.

It is believed that the gods who gave fruits, other were born as Gopis to enjoy the divine leelas of Krishna. On the day of Sharad Purnima, Krishna played flute and all Gopis gathered around him. Krishna multiplied himself and danced with each Gopi throughout the night. It is said that through His divine powers, Krishna stretched the night so long for them as though they felt dancing with him for a thousand of years.
